Jeju Island, Korea
Jeju Island is a top tourist destination in Korea. It is the country’s largest island and is commonly referred to as the “island of the gods”. Most islands in the country are created by lavas surfacing from volcanoes in the bottom of the sea about 1,000 years ago. Jeju island is one of them and it is now known all over the world for its breathtaking views and landscape that was created in the prehistoric times.
The island is located in the Southern part of the country and is only one hour away from Seoul by plane. Sightseeing
The island is compact that travelers can explore it without the need of a tour guide. It boasts of wonderful views so sightseeing is a must-do while in Jeju island. For hiking and climbing enthusiasts, you can climb Jeju’s majestic mountains. One popular mountain is Mt. Hallasan. It sits 1,950 meters above sea level and is the tallest mountain in South Korea. Regardless of the season, the mountain offers a breathtaking view especially when you reach the summit where you will find a magnificent crater and a lake.
Sunrise Peak (Seongsan Ilchulbong)
This mountain is the most scenic of all the mountains in Jeju Island. For this reason, many photographers and climbers brave the ascending steps to the summit in order to get a panoramic view of the island.
Sangumburi Crater
You will find many craters in Jeju island and one of the most famous is the Sangumburi Crater. It has a diameter of 650 meters and is located 23 kilometers east of the Jeju City. It boasts of a botanical habitat that supports about 420 species of temperate, subtropical and alpine flora. You will also find several restaurants the serve local islander food to hungry visitors.
Teddy bear museum
Other than natural wonders, you will also find various museums on the island. A very popular destination for all tourists is the teddy bear museum where teddy bears are featured to depict historical events. Tourists will also be treated to a teddy bear fashion show and wedding ceremonies.
Chocolate castle
Chocolate lovers should not miss going to the chocolate castle where you will find the first Chocolate museum in Korea. They have sweet delicacies that are available in every shape and flavors that is a collection from different chocolatiers around the world. They have unique flavors such as green tea, mango and ginseng and visitors to the museum will have the chance to witness how chocolates are made the traditional way – handmade.
